What breast lift can do?

A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, raises the ptosed breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the new breast contour.

New statistics  show breast lifts have grown 70% since 2000, outpacing breast implants 2-to-1.

Sometimes the areola becomes enlarged over time, and a breast lift will reduce this as well.

A breast lift can rejuvenate your figure with a breast profile that is more youthful and uplifted. A woman's breasts often change over time, losing their youthful shape and firmness. These changes and loss of skin elasticity can result from:

  • Pregnancy

  • Breastfeeding

  • Weight fluctuations

  • Aging

  • Gravity

  • Heredity

What breast lift surgery can't do

Breast lift surgery does not significantly change the size of your breasts or round out the upper part of your breast. If you want your breasts to look fuller, consider breast lift and breast augmentation surgery.

If you want smaller breasts, consider combining breast lift and breast reduction surgery.

Breast lift and breast implant placement

Some women may want to consider placement of a breast implant in addition to the breast lift.

An implant can provide improved upper breast fullness or cleavage. Implants can be placed at the same time or as a second procedure, depending on the experience of the surgeon.

For infomation about implants, go to the Breast Augmentation page.

Breast Ptosis

Breast ptosis is the medical term for drooping breast tissue.

The most important thing to know is that it’s completely natural to experience some degree of sagging as your breasts change over time.

Factors such as pregnancy, weight gain and loss, bra cup size, genetics and even gravity can all contribute to diminished skin elasticity that causes breasts to lose their youthful position.

While natural, changes in your breast appearance may cause you to feel self-conscious. For example, your breasts may not look the same as they once did in clothing or swimsuits.

If you are bothered by breast sagging, keep reading to learn about the different degrees of ptosis and how a breast lift may help restore a more youthful look.

How long does a breast lift last?

There is no cut and dry answer for how long your breast lift results will last. Some patients find that their breast lift results last for well over 15 years while others may seek minor cosmetic alterations sooner. On average, breast lift results last for 10 to 15 years.

It will depend basically on:

Your Skin

Genetics plays a significant role in how your skin ages, but environmental factors are important too. Diet may be one of the most important choices you make when it comes to maintaining healthy, glowing skin. Avoiding processed foods and maintaining a plant-heavy diet can promote optimal skin health.

Lifestyle choices are also important. Avoiding excess sunlight and tobacco use (which damages collagen and elastin) can ensure that your skin maintains a youthful glow for many years.

Breast Support

When it comes to maintaining the position of your breasts after breast lift surgery, gravity is your enemy. Any steps that you can take to prevent stretching your breasts (wearing a support bra when running, using a supportive bra in general) can prevent premature sagging.

Surgical Technique

Not all breast lift surgeries are performed using the same techniques. During your breast lift surgery in Waukesha, Dr. McCall will use advanced techniques that deliver long-lasting results. The aim of our plastic surgery team is to deliver cosmetic results that meet your personal goals without the need for multiple follow-up procedures. In some cases, our patients find that one breast lift surgery is all they need for a lifetime of benefits.

Pregnancy and Weight Fluctuations

If you are planning on having more children, you may want to postpone your breast lift. Pregnancy comes with significant hormonal fluctuations and possible weight gain. By postponing your breast lift, you can enjoy longer-lasting cosmetic results following your plastic surgery in Waukesha.

Breast Lift Incisions

We will discuss your concerns about your current breast shape, and your goals regarding the breast uplift procedure.

Prior to the consultation, you should think carefully about your goals, such as your satisfaction levels with the volume of your breasts and whether you want to increase or decrease the volume and the use or not of implants too

.

Breast lift procedures can be performed in a variety of ways with different types of incisions. The approximate location of the incisions and scars will be outlined directly on your skin with a medical skin marker or on a diagram.

For a small uplift, short incisions just around the nipple areola may be necessary. Sometimes they extend down the breast like a lollipop. The more the breasts sag, the more likely you will need longer incisions.

WHEN WILL YOU SEE RESULTS?

The majority of swelling will disappear within a few weeks after surgery, but there’s always some residual swelling that hangs around.

Approximately six to 12 weeks after surgery, your breasts should be mostly settled into their final positions. However, it may be between about two weeks to six months and a year before you see your complete results.
